Reba co-produced the 12-track project alongside Buddy Cannon in Nashville and has since found early praise from critics:
“The new album’s polished warmth, narrative poignancy and modern honky-tonk heartache in some ways hearkens back to the 1984 set My Kind of Country, which helped establish her name and musical identity.”
NPR
“After all, with 16 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, 24 Billboard 200-charting albums (two of them reached the top) and three Grammy Awards, she no longer has anything to prove.”
Billboard
“She opens the chorus [of ‘Stronger Than The Truth’] with an exposed, dejected high note, and punctuates her phrases with distinctive curled vowels and melodic trills, making warm, expressive use of a timbre slightly thinned by the passage of time.”
NPR
“…this is classic Reba. Have your tissue box and dancing shoes handy because you’ll need both.”
Entertainment Weekly
“There's no question that Reba McEntire is a music legend.”
O, The Oprah Magazine
“McEntire's heart and passion for what she does make her a national icon. Even though she is a jack of all trades, career-wise, music is certainly her main passion.”
Taste of Country
“sleek, mid-tempo, hard country number [‘The Bar’s Getting Lower’]. The bridge is just 20 seconds long, but McEntire makes it a melodrama in miniature. […] she’s up to the task of going there, with seasoned perspective and without reservation.”
NPR
Reba also sat down with PBS NewsHour National Correspondent and primary substitute anchor Amna Nawaz to discuss her career, life that steered to this new music and how “for four decades, the reigning queen of country music has changed with the times, churning out hit after hit after hit.”Anchor and managing editor Judy Woodruff definitely concludes, “There's only one Reba.” Watch the full profile here: https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/reba-mcentire-on-women-in-country-music-and-returning-to-her-roots.
